From a wedding photographer’s perspective, picking out the quintessential moment from a series of moments is key.  Much like a wave in the ocean, there is a build up until the wave is at its peak.  This is the point a surfer looks for.  Too soon and the wave won’t carry them.  Too late and the same result happens.  Much like an experienced surfer knows  when to take the wave, a photographer knows how to anticipate the moments and when to take the photo.

A photographer who cannot sense the series of moments or who relies on how fast their camera takes a series of photos will miss the quintessential moment.  The moment may happen between the frames caught.  These are the crucial moments which cannot be repeated.  If you can’t catch the moment, it’s gone forever.  The genuine emotion and expressions cannot be re-created or re-enacted.

The beaming grin of the grandmother watching her eldest grandson on his wedding day. *Click*

The pure elation you feel and express as the tears stream down your face of seeing your husband or wife to be at the other end of the aisle on your wedding day. *Click*

Photographs taken at the right time can be used as anchors in our memory.  These anchors are what we draw on in years to come to relive those memories.  What price will you put on losing the anchor because of a missed moment?
